I loved this book because it was so well written with so much attention to detail. I expected to read about the reasons for the loss of beautiful and mighty ships and got answers to all my questions. I was very impressed by the discipline of the people and their officers in the face of suffering, danger, and death. I was horrified to learn that there were women and children on board also and that many of them died as the result of being shipwrecked. Also, many young boys were working on these ships far away from their parents and facing the same dangers as the rest of the crew. This book was a real eyeopener. I'm rereading it to make sure I didn't miss anything. I've learned about the humanity of the people who helped or tried to help the shipwreck victims, and also about the inhumanity of the ones who could have helped but chose not to. I recommend this to anyone who likes to read about sailing ships of the 1700's and 1800's. I was not disappointed.Product details

Easy read!!!
This is a rare find. For those of us interested in the times past and how risky ships were, this gives a glimpse into the challenges and every day life as well as the constant threat of danger. Worth the read
If you loved the Aubrey-Maturin series, Bolitho or Ramage you should get this. Here is proof from the time that your favorite authors didn't make it all up. The stories would be unbelievable if it weren't for the fact that this is just a simple recounting of events as seen in logs and courts martial.
