Should be required social studies material. Mr. Young does a brilliant job of making individual freedom, or lack of it, the matrix for analyzing the range of political theory. His clear and breezy prose makes normally difficult concepts easily understood. Abandon the stereotypical and often confusing liberal vs. conservative terminology, Mr. Young provides us with something much more coherent. The Founding Fathers would be nodding in approval. The section on central banking deserves to be more developed and debated thoroughly...an entire book of its own, perhaps. Excellent insight and extremely well written. Good work!Product details

One of the best written books on the subject! Made the most SENSE to help one understand and evaluate the current political scene and its confusions! Takes a lot of the confusion away; helps one 'see clearly' and then know where to stand. I gave it to my nephew for his high school graduation. Personally, I've been an educator for almost 15 years and think this book should be part of EVERY high school history/political program
This book should be read by every American who wants to know what is really happening in the world of politics and should be required reading by every student in high school and college. Forget Left vs. Right, Dems vs. Repubs, Liberal vs. Conservatives and Capitalism vs. Socialism vs. Communism vs. Fascism. The author reveals the true political spectrum that undercuts and explains all political activities. Must read!
All through our lives, we have heard about the Left and Right sides of a political way of thinking. We have been hammered with all kinds of confusing issues regarding Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, and Conservatives. We have BOTH sides of the fence stating the OTHER GUY is leading us to ruin, destroying the American way of life.
Well, guess what, neither one of them is correct. There is a LIE, which we have been told so often, by so many different sources, that the average American no longer knows who to believe.
And that has been the whole purpose, to destroy America from within, by adding a confusion so great, one stops being able to know who or what to believe in.
Finally, one simple book uncovers this Great LIE and WHO's telling it and what the simple truth is.
If you love America and want to protect its way of life, then you must buy and read this book. Our way of life depends on it.
This book takes all of the mystery out of understanding the various political groups. I'd venture to say that the broad majority of the public doesn't understand the simple differences between the different political ideologies and this book will sort it out for them plainly and simply.
I was very impressed with this book and Mr. Young's smooth and clear style of writing. He took on quite a task to sort out the confusion we have been raised to accept in school about the political "Right" and "Left". The thought, "It never made sense to me either", ran through my mind several times. I think he did a great job. Factually our very survival depends on understanding the various political systems and having judgment enough to elect people who will protect our inalienable rights starting at city and county and state government levels and then beyond. I hope he will continue and expand his work as it is a vital area of education for children and every person in this and every country on Earth.
The gift of "The Political Spectrum" to me was to educate me in areas I was sure I knew! Turns out I wasn't so smart after all. Young takes a step by step approach to educate us (well educated) readers about the ideologies whose names are so common their understanding is considered passe'. The more I read the more I realized I had never really known much about some of the political labels I felt very comfortable using. "Fascism" is a good example. To me, fascism was like pornography hard to define but I knew it when I saw it. Now, I know what it is, where it came from and what its ideologies are. I've also learned why it's important to know how to recognize it and where it resides along the political spectrum.
"The Political Spectrum" is a must-read in today's world, especially as we are witnesses to great changes within our own country. It's an easy read and easy to use as a political reference. If I have any complaint it's that I wish Young had gone further into the uniquely American aspects of our republic. Oh... I am now completely clear on why we are a republic and not a pure democracy and... why that's important.
I'm looking forward to future editions to see how Mr. Young continues to develop his own thesis.
Easy to understand for the lay person, yet every situation explained! A must read for every American! Read this book and finally understand how our political system truly works (hello? a MUST today!) and stop being left out of the conversation - you'll definitely have something to add after reading this!
